It is with mixed emotions that we can announce the replacement of our old minibus with a newer, greener more comfortable model.

Following the press release a few months ago by Huntingdon District Council of a £7000 grant, to be used towards the purchase of a new vehicle, members of the trustees decided to replace their old but reliable VW converted minibus. Searches of the internet provided a few company’s who carried out minibus conversions of either vans or manufacturers passenger carrying vehicles. Finally we decided to visit EuroMotive (Kent) Ltd. and talk with them about various conversion requirements. Whilst there we were shown the Demonstrator vehicle, this allowed us to see at first hand the high quality of the conversions that the company carry out. We asked the Company to quote for a conversion to our specification and they in turn also offered us the opportunity to purchase the demonstrator.

The committee had already decided to continue its association with VW, since we have received such good, supporting and responsive service from our local VW specialists, Cookes Vans Ltd at Peterborough and the reliability, servicing and durability of the vehicle has been exceptional over the 10 years we have owned it. Since the Demonstrator was a VW and offered good value for money the Trustees decided to purchase this vehicle. With a few small changes to yet improve it further, all of which were given free of charge by the company, it was collected in early March.

Our new Mini Bus has a larger body but still has seating for 15 people so we now have more leg room and space for walkers, shoppers and frames. Whilst access at the front still has a couple of steps we have a completely flat floor so there is no more wheel arch to hang over and we have a larger tail lift for those who want the ultimate lifting experience straight to floor level. The vehicle is also equipped with Climate Control which we hope will help during those hot summer sunny days and the cold snowy ones.

The new bus has been specially signed out by Michael Murray Signs Ltd and is now in regular service on all our Rural Hopper and day centre, Nursing Home and Excursion routes. It is available, provided we can find drivers, for any local group or individual to hire / drive (with the right licence, etc.) and we look forward to as many carefree and happy miles with our friendly local groups as we had with the old bus.
